This is my take.
A day in hell is when you are surrounded by everything that could possibly go wrong, meet all the wrong people at all the wrong times in all the wrong places, be confined and caged and unable to get out of their presence.
Finally, you are taken out and placed in complete solitude with no shoulder to cry on.
That is it.
