I was sitting with this friend and a group of her friends chatting about wonderful things girls who do not really know each other talk about. We discussed the amount of cholent that was prepared, the guys who were going to come home from Shul, the girl from the community who got engaged, the size of her engagement ring. We discussed whether it is kosher or not to dye hair…
One of the girls in the room was celebrating her birthday. “Happy Birthday!” I said “How old are you?”
--Twenty—she said
--Well, that’s amazing. Congratulations, mazal tov.
She gave me a scary look and in a tone that was almost a shriek she burst.
--I am twenty and SINGLE!
